In collaboration with our esteemed implementing partners, we proudly participated in a groundbreaking project aimed at enhancing digital access for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens in Kenya. This initiative was a resounding success, yielding impressive outcomes that positively impacted a significant portion of the community.

A total of 10,000 PWDs and senior citizens were trained on essential digital skills, utilizing the comprehensive national digital skills curriculum. This training spanned 16 counties across Kenya, ensuring a wide-reaching impact. Our training program also prioritized cyber hygiene, equipping participants with crucial knowledge to safely navigate the digital landscape.

In addition to empowering individual users, we focused on enhancing digital accessibility within the government. 150 senior government officers at the director level, along with ICT officers and content managers, were sensitized and received hands-on training. This included education on Digital Accessibility, the Kenya Digital Accessibility Standard KS 2952, Disability Mainstreaming, and the Legal & Policy Environment on Disability issues.

Our commitment to accessibility extended to the evaluation of government digital platforms. Using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Government digital platforms were assessed for accessibility. Of these, platforms were successfully remediated to meet the required standards, ensuring a more inclusive digital experience for all users.

To promote holistic accessibility, we worked with officers from 10 government agencies. These officers were sensitized and guided through the Digital Accessibility Maturity Assessment using our customized Digital Accessibility Maturity Model (DAMM) tool.

Our efforts culminated in the creation of valuable knowledge products, including research study reports designed for publication as journal articles. These resources serve as vital references and information repositories, contributing to the ongoing pursuit of full digital accessibility and inclusivity.

This project stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering an inclusive digital environment, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability or age, has secure and equal access to digital government services.
